The Desert Sea
A poem turned into a song
The Desert Sea
by Pernoste
I’m not fearful of the road,
getting naught but what I’m owed,
driven from your warm embrace.
Remembering only your feel… your face.
This life takes me away.
Wherever I am, it’s just the same
and all I know is in my name.
Prayers to God in the quiet
angry asking the reason why it
seems I must go away.
The sky shines white-bright,
near cloudless in this desert,
yet it speaks, crisp and cold,
to my seeking spirit, this blazing sun.
The desert scorches away
all those unnecessary things,
driving me through the sand
and over gigantic dunes.
Blinded by the fierce light,
my spirit is yet high as the sky.
Even words, spoken aloud,
remain silent on still air,
devoured by the fierce sun
and its limitless desire.
The sky shines white-bright,
near cloudless in this desert,
yet it speaks, crisp and cold,
to my seeking spirit, this blazing sun.
I am a shell of what’s, barren,
emptied of old knowledge,
and this vast rolling desert
has now become my sea…
yet I must sail my way
in the ruined ship of my past.

I’m getting mad mac imagery mixed with Deep South old Texas cowboy imagery while simultaneously also on another planet?? This was a fun read :)
